Types of folding beds
As with conventional beds, there are different types of folding beds that you have to choose from. However, the choice is not quite as large as with conventional beds, because folding beds can be roughly divided into three main categories. We have briefly summarized for you which ones are.
Foldable bed frames:

If you are looking for a cheap folding bed that you can use as a guest bed, it is ideal foldable bed frame. As a rule, a conventional mattress can be placed on top of this and the frame can be stored in a space-saving manner. The classic version here is a foldable metal bed frame in which a mattress can be placed on tension belts or spring wires. However, there are also other variants, such as foldable cardboard frames or other creative variants.
Folding mattresses:
Foldable mattresses do not require a bed frame, slatted frame or substructure. They are only folded apart and can be used on the floor as a guest bed, camping bed or emergency bed. Some models are folded up also suitable as stools, so they are also suitable for use in children's rooms.
Cots:
The classic field bed is also a foldable bed, but without a mattress, as you usually lie on a stretched cloth on which you can sleep in a sleeping bag without a mattress – at least in the short term or as an emergency solution. Field beds are also suitable as a camping bed.
Materials
Most folding beds are made of metal, but there are also variants made of wood or even cardboard. Due to the stability and the easily integrated folding mechanisms, metal is very suitable as a material for a folding bed. It is compactly collapsible and therefore easy to store and they already start at a fairly reasonable price level. In addition, they are shatterproof and therefore durable. The same applies to field beds, because they are also usually very durable and resilient.
With a wooden folding bed, there is always the risk that hinges will erupt over time or that the material will warp or even break. A cheap folding bed made of wood is therefore not necessarily recommended. In most cases, it is also not so resilient. Robust models, on the other hand, are often very heavy and therefore not so easy to transport or store.

If you are looking for a very cheap folding bed, the folding mattress is certainly a good solution. Here you should pay attention to a high-quality foam core, which does not pass through so quickly, but at the same time offers a support effect and is not too firm, otherwise the lying comfort is not very good. As a rule, folding mattresses are covered with a cover made of microfiber or a similar fabric. This allows them to be used as stools, for example, when the bed is not needed. As a bed, it can then be covered with conventional bed linen or a bed sheet.
